A TOTAL of 158 male recruits of the 162nd intake and 67 female recruits of the 54th intake concluded their Basic Military Training (BMT) with a Passing Out Parade yesterday at the Training Institute of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (TI RBAF) in Penanjong Garrison.
The male and female recruits underwent 31 weeks and 21 weeks of Basic Military Training, respectively.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof attended as the guest of honour. RBAF Commander Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, services commanders, commandants, senior officers and officers of the RBAF also attended.
The guest of honour inspected the parade and presented awards to the instructors and recruits who achieved excellence during the course of the training.
Award recipients from the 162nd intake were 16439 Petty Officer Himran bin Haji Awang Hassan for Best Platoon Sergeant, 17077 Corporal Mahdini bin Osli for Best Male Instructor, 52551 Recruit Mohd Ali bin Emran for Best Overall Recruit, 52624 Recruit Muhammad Syazwan bin Mahni Azizan for Best Recruit in Small Arms, 52578 Recruit Muhammad Muiz bin Rafiudin for Best in Physical Training, 52706 Recruit (L) Khalid bin Haji Yussof for Best Military Skills and 52673 Recruit (U) Awangku Mohd Hamizan bin Pengiran Haji Gazali for Best Small Arms Shooter.
Meanwhile, the female recruits who received awards were 21216 Sergeant Norbaya binti Haji Abdul Hadi for Best Platoon Sergeant, 21474 Corporal Nurul Suriyana binti Haji Serbini for Best Female Instructor, 21956 Recruit Nurain binti Mohd Sallih for Best Overall Recruit, 21995 Recruit Nur Ezzah binti Mohammad Hirmy for Best Recruit in Small Arms, 21941 Recruit Nurul Asilah binti Zulkibli for Best in Physical Training and 21948 Recruit (L) Dayangku Ummi Ramizah binti Pengiran Haji Jeludin for Best Military Skills.
In his speech, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz said, “In Islam, the responsibility of the military is divided into two parts: responsibility towards Allah the Almighty, and responsibility towards Al-Amir or the Supreme Commander of the military forces.
“Their responsibility towards Allah the Almighty includes being patient during challenging situations, especially when encountering enemy forces, and not running away or deserting their duties; being prepared to fight for their faith; and not defecting to the enemy’s side.
“Their responsibilities towards Al-Amir include obeying commands, leaving all matters to the decision of the Supreme Commander and being ready to act and respond to their call of duty from him.”
He also commended the TI RBAF for incorporating Islamic history education into the training of the military recruits.
Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz concluded by congratulating the recruits on the success of their basic training, saying that it had shaped them to be more disciplined and responsible.
