A MINI carnival was held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday during the Bandarku Ceria programme from 5am to 11am.
The carnival, in conjunction with the World Sight Day 2018, was organised by the Department of Ophthalmology, Eye Centre of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital.
The guest of honour was Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
Among the activities were Tazkirah Subuh during the Masjidku Makmur, Negara Berkat programme, eye examination, eye healthcare exhibition, aerobic exercise, interactive games and charity sales bazaar.
In conjunction with the Ministry of Health’s vision, ‘Together Towards a Healthy Nation’, the carnival aimed to encourage awareness for eyesight care, inculcate a healthy lifestyle and empower the society to be responsible for one’s own health, and to enliven the celebration.
The World Sight Day 2018 celebration is held annually in October throughout the world, where it advocates and communicates issues related to eyesight problems and avoidable blindness.
This year’s theme ‘Eye Care Everywhere’ focussed its attention towards lowering the number of people in the global community affected by eyesight problems and avoidable blindness through preventive strategies and ensuring best qualities of ophthalmology services are delivered safely, timely, efficiently, effectively, fairly and patient-centric.
