BRUNEI Darussalam’s veteran athletes bagged a haul of 21 medals in the Malaysian International Open Masters Athletics Championship at Universiti Malaya recently.
The contingent won 11 gold medals, eight silver and two bronze.
Haji Ariffin bin Abdullah clinched gold medals in 200m and 400m race as well as long jump, while Husna bin Abdullah was triumphant in the long-distance run winning gold medals in the 3,000m and 800m race. Both athletes also won silver in the 800m race and javelin throw.
Haji Zainal bin Haji Namit won gold medals in triple and high jump events and silver in long jump. Pengiran Azizul Akbar bin Pengiran Haji Badaruddin bagged home a gold medal in shot put and won silver medal in discuss throw. The disc throw’s gold was won by Ampuan Khifli bin Ampuan Haji Damit.
In the 200m race, Budin Anak Meringgai finished second to receive the silver medal. Haji Mohd Safri bin Haji Mudin won silver in long jump.
Marznimurney Abdullah completed the medal haul for the country with gold medal in 1,500m race and silver in the 800m.
