THE Defence Science and Technology Policy Framework (DSTPF) was officiated by First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence, at a launching ceremony held at the Tower Block, Ministry of Defence, yesterday.

Captain (Rtd) Haji Mohammad Amirul Shahnoel bin Haji Mohammad Noeh, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology) at the Ministry of Defence, in his opening remarks said that the policy framework was aimed at strengthening defence Science and Technology (S&T) within the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).

Based upon four strategic themes that align to the MinDef Strategy map, the policy framework strives to consolidate and reinforce these S&T efforts and initiatives. Additionally, the DSTPF is executed with the assistance of the recently established Defence Science and Technology Secretariat (DTS), and with the formation of the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) that consists of major S&T units in MinDef.

In his speech, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz said that decisions on defence investments must be informed with due diligence and with proven methodologies with a good knowledge base.

He also urged all parties to support the endeavour to make Brunei S&T landscape into one that eventually favours Brunei’s defence goals.

The DSTPF was formally launched with the reveal of the DSTPF webpage, which can now be found on the MinDef official website and is accessible to the public.

During the event, a presentation on the policy framework was also delivered. Amongst the other highlights of the policy framework are strategies for partnerships with industries, institutes of higher learning and other government agencies, to create a functional domestic ecosystem that allows defence S&T requirements to promulgate up and down-streams.

The event was aimed at engaging wider audiences within MinDef and RBAF in the objectives and strategies of the DSTPF as part of the efforts to further the outreach of the policy framework.
