THE Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) held a Workshop on National CSO Preparatory Workshop for the upcoming 11th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) at the MKM headquarters in Kampong Salambigar recently.
The annual AFML is an open platform for studying, discussing and exchanging good practices and ideas between governments, workers’ and employers’ organisations, and civil society stake-holders on the main issues facing foreign workers in Southeast Asia.
Under the theme ‘Digitalisation to improve decent work conditions for migrant workers in ASEAN’, the workshop was participated by several representatives from ASEAN embassies and non-governmental agencies.
The workshop began with a welcoming speech from MKM President Mohd Yusof bin Halim followed by a presentation on the overview of the AFML process.
This was followed by updates on the progress of implementing recommendations from the third-10th AFML forums by Sinapan Samydorai and two separate workshop sessions on the themes ‘Digitalisation of Migrant Labour Management’ and ‘Digital services to migrant workers’.
Every year the AFML forum raises suggestions to advance the implementation of the principles of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers.
Singapore will host the 11th AFML on October 29-30. The forum will focus on digitalisation to promote good work for foreign workers in ASEAN under the theme ‘2018 Resilience and Innovation’.
