MS ABDB began their title defence with a 2-1 victory over plucky Wijaya FC in the DST Super League 2018 at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Friday.
Budiman Jumat opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Khairuddin Mohd Azahari doubled the lead in the 31st minute.
Mohd Asnawi Syazni Abdul Aziz pulled one back for Wijaya but the army personnel held on for the win.
Meanwhile, Indera SC also got off to a winning start after beating Kota Ranger 3-1 at the Berakas Sports Complex.
The newly-crowned DST Sumbangsih Cup winners took the lead in the 22nd minute through Naziruddin Haji Ismail before Mohammad Aimmil Rahman Ramlee scored his side’s second a minute before the break.
Mohd Esmendy Brahim reduced the deficit in the 55th minute but Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman restored Indera’s two-goal cushion in the 80th minute.
The league continues with last year’s DST FA Cup finalists MS PDB looking to build their fine form at the end of last season against IKLS FC and Najip I-Team taking on Lun Bawang.
Newly promoted Setia Perdana will face Kasuka FC in the evening fixture at the Berakas Sports Complex. All fixtures will be played today.
