THE Medical and Health Services, Combat Service Support (CSS), Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) and Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) co-organised the 2nd Medical and Health Symposium as part of the 24th Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Exercise.
Themed ‘Pre Hospital Medical Emergencies’, the symposium held recently was designed to encourage exchange of knowledge and experience among medical emergency agencies in Brunei to enable interoperability.
Among the topics discussed were Combat Medic Experience in the Warzone, Trauma Assessment, Dental Trauma, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, and Cardiac Emergencies.
The ceremony began with a welcoming speech by Acting Chief Medical Officer, Medical and Health Services, CSS, RBLF Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Haji Mas Irman Rukmino bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Wahab followed by a keynote speech on ‘Civilian-Military Interoperability in Medical Emergencies’ by Lieutenant Geoff Burgerhoff from United States Navy (USN).
Lecturer from the PAPRSB IHS, UBD Mohammad Khairulamin delivered a simulation for medical training titled ‘Simulation: When Your Patient is a Mannequin’ in the afternoon sesision.
The symposium was participated by representatives from various agencies, including the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), UBD, Ministry of Health, Royal Brunei Police Force, Prisons Department, Brunei Fire and Rescue Department, Jerudong Park Medical Centre and Panaga Health Centre.
The guest of honour Deputy Dean of PAPRSB IHS, UBD Dr Zaw Wint presented appreciation gifts and certificates to presenters.
Several other symposiums were also held throughout the CARAT Exercise 2018 such as the Women Interaction Programme, Public Affairs Symposium, and Military Law Operations Symposium.
The symposiums offered a platform for officers from RBAF and USN as well as those from other government agencies to exchange information, ideas, enhance relationships and strengthen ties in a conducive learning environment.
