Road closures for get-together ceremony

BANDAR Seri Begawan (BSB) will become host for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the get-together and Junjung Ziarah ceremony for residence in the Brunei-Muara District on July 24.

In line with this, the Traffic Control and Investigation Department (JSKLL) of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) announced the closure of several major roads in the capital starting 6.30am until the event concludes. Members of the public who work or have matters to attend to in the capital are advised to turn up early before the closure.

The roads are traffic light area leading to Jalan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS); the junction leading to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (SHHB) Highway (in front of Badi’ah Hotel; traffic light area Jalan RIPAS / SHHB Highway near Court building; the traffic light area of Jalan Dato Haji Basir, Jalan SOAS near BSB Fire Station; the traffic light area of four-way junction at Jalan Dato Haji Basir, Jalan Kumbang Pasang, Jalan Jame’ and Jalan Simpang; traffic lights of the three-way junction at Jalan Tasek / Jalan Bendahara near Chung Hwa Middle School including traffic light area at Jalan Jawatan Dalam, Jalan Kebangsaan, Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Tasek and Jalan TV Besar.

The road closure also affected traffic lights of the four-way junction at Jalan SOAS, Jalan Stoney, Jalan Pehin Dato Isa; traffic light at Jalan Kianggeh near Jubilee Hotel; traffic light of Jalan Elizabeth 2, Jalan Kianggeh near Chinese Temple and traffic light at Jalan Residency and Jalan McArthur.

Some roads that will be tightly supervised by the JSKLL are along Jalan McArthur, Jalan SOAS, traffic light area at Jalan Roberts; along Jalan Elizabeth 2, along Jalan Sumbiling heading to BSB Police Station; along Jalan Stoney, along Jalan SOAS, Jalan Pemancha, Jalan Residency leading to Kota Batu near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) junction.

The roads that need to be vacant a day before the actual event will be Madrasah parking area, along Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan McArthur and Jalan SOAS; Jalan Stoney, Jalan Sumbiling, Jalan Pehin Dato Isa, Jalan Pengiran Shahbandar and Jalan Istana Darussalam and most importantly will be the road along Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, BSB compound.

For participants and members of the public who will be attending the get-together and Junjung Ziarah ceremony, there will be several alternative car park areas provided such as along Jalan Kianggeh leading to Jubilee Hotel to Jalan Subok; along Jalan Residency leading to the Arts and Handicraft Centre’s building towards MoFAT’s building and Jalan Subok.

However, those who have urgencies are not advised to park their cars at the said areas due to congestion that will take place.

The RBPF also reminds members of the public and participants to carpool or shuttle bus that have been provided by the Brunei-Muara District Office.

There will be four locations that has been identified for the drop-off of the participants and flag-wavers. The areas are Bus Terminal at Jalan Cator, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan Pehin Dato Isa and Jalan Sumbiling (if needed).

It is reminded that teachers need to take full responsibilities of their students in looking after their safety at the drop-off areas.

The RBPF reminded the public to always comply with the traffic rules and regulations while driving and advised to use alternative roads if they still need to drive to Bandar Seri Begawan.

It is strictly reminded that the RBPF will not hesitate to take actions against any drivers who parked their cars at the prohibited areas during the ceremony and hope for cooperation from all parties to ensure the smooth running of the event.
