AFTER a two-and-a-half year break from the international entertainment industry, Bruneian-born international superstar Wu Chun is returning to the world of show business after completing the filming of two movies in the first six months of this year.
Wu Chun started off the year by shooting ‘NEST 3D’, a science fiction thriller with co-stars Li Bingbing (from ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’), Hollywood heartthrob Kellan Lutz (best known from the ‘Twilight’ saga film series) and Kelsey Grammer (Dr Frasier Crane from the TV sitcom ‘Frasier’).
The filming is held in Queensland, Australia at the Warner Brothers Village Roadshow Studios.
Wu Chun’s second movie this year is ‘My Other Home’, a Chinese-American biographical film directed by American-born Yang Zi, with co-stars Stephon Marbury and basketball star Allen Iverson.
This marked the first time in five years since Wu Chun has managed to complete filming two movies within six months.
Both films will tentatively come out early next year.
In an exclusive interview on his entertainment career following a long break that prompted rumours of retirement, Wu Chun said, “When I was back into filming with ‘NEST 3D’ after a two-and-a-half year break, I was a bit nervous because I was worried that I was rusty in acting and was also worried about my English proficiency.
“This is the first movie that I really have to speak English and also communicate with the crew of the movie. All my previous movies and dramas were in Chinese.”
After a few scenes, Wu Chun shared, “I managed to regain my ‘feeling’ and slowly familiarised myself with the filming of the movie.”
Upon the completion of shooting ‘NEST 3D’, the script of ‘My Other Home’, another English language movie, was sent to Wu Chun.
Wu Chun, also a former Brunei national basketball player who is passionate about game, accepted the role.
“It is a rare opportunity to play a role in another English movie within the span of six months and ‘My Other Home’ is an inspiring story about basketball and fitness, which is really close to my heart,” he commented.
“The story also teaches us not to lose hope.”
Wu Chun also shared that he felt a little guilty as diehard fans have been waiting for him to return to filming after the long break to spend quality time with his family.
When asked about retirement, Wu Chun expressed, “I will still work on shooting movies that I love, but I may not want to take up filming that will take four to five months because I feel that spending time with my family is really precious.”
Besides being busy in filming movies, Wu Chun early this year was chosen to become the Ambassador of BMW Germany.
Some of Wu Chun’s other endorsements include with international companies, such as Allianz Global Investors, Germany; Illuma milk in Ireland; Infinitus supplement in China; and COSATTO in the United Kingdom, to name just a few.
In addition, Wu Chun also organised the second all women’s charity fun run in Brunei, ‘She Runs 2016’, that got the support of 16 countries and raised $68,000 for two beneficiaries – Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD).
