FIFTY-NINE conditional letters of employment were presented to candidates who succeeded in impressing prospective companies during a Market Day event held from November 26-27 for Institute of Brunei Technical Education’s (IBTE) ISQ 7 cohort of students yesterday.

The presentation ceremony, held to mark the closing of IBTE Market Day, took place at the IBTE Mechanical Campus. IBTE Acting Deputy CEO (Academic) Hajah Mariah binti Haji Abdul Manaf was the guest of honour.

One hundred and seven students from four IBTE ISQ programmes – heavy vehicle driver, industrial blaster painter, marker/fitter, and scaffolder – and 10 engineering firms participated in Market Day.

The participating companies were Liftco Sdn Bhd, Aziz Latif Transport Sdn Bhd, MOC Sdn Bhd, QTechline Services, Megalift Sdn Bhd, Adinin Works and Engineering Sdn Bhd, Ishii Iron Works Co Ltd, Sahid Sdn Bhd, Shika Sdn Bhd, and QESS Energy Support Services Sdn Bhd, setting up booths to introduce themselves, advertise job opportunities and conduct walk-in interviews for the students.

Candidate Muhammad Amir Hamizan @ Muhammad Hazim Amjad bin Kekali, who received a conditional offer of employment, shared his joy with the Bulletin.

Syukur Alhamdulillah, I am very thankful and blessed to receive this conditional offer of employment. However, I am also sad that many of my fellow students did not receive offers,” he said.

Another Market Day participant, a former student of Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School, said he worked part-time and then opted to join IBTE’s Industrial Blaster Painter ISQ programme after completing his ‘O’ Level for the 2016/2017 academic year.

He said, “I am worried that I can’t get a job after finishing my training in mid-December. I always hope for the best and pray that the best will happen,” he said.
