BRUNEI Darussalam ‘A’ swimmer Nur Haziq Samil bagged bronze in the 200m freestyle event of the 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games at the Swimming Pool of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
The national swimmer clocked 2:05.93 and in the process set a new personal best eclipsing his previous time of 2:06.40.
Nur Haziq came in fourth place with a time of 30.83 in the 50m backstroke and fifth in the 100m backstroke event with 1:06.67.
Brunei Darussalam swimming team easily reached their target of five to eight personal bests they set before the start of the two-day meet with a number of swimmers posting improved times.
Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ swimmer Emma Yusuf narrowly missed out on a place in the podium after finishing with a time of 36.65s, just 0.01 short of bronze which was won by Kristen Chong Siew Yet of Sarawak in the 50m breaststroke.
Emma achieved a new personal best after she lowered her old time of 37.38s.
Her teammate Ashley Chai Xin Rou came fourth in the 50m backstroke after she recorded 33.79s.
Meanwhile, Northern Territory of Australia produced a clean sweep in both the under-21 men’s and women’s 200m freestyle relay events.
Nicholas Wecker, Hamish Bjornskov McDonald, Samuel Bricknell and Martin Krantz struck gold in the men’s event while Rosanna Materazzo, Lauren McSkimming, Jenti White and Isabella Tinning won gold in the women’s event.
