AKER Solutions launched an automated warehouse storage system with Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) at the Marine Construction Yard in Kuala Belait.

The high performance vertical storage system is the first to be installed in Brunei. Its compact design reduces the material footprint by 70 per cent, increases the speed of picking an item in the warehouse by 60 per cent and ensures safe operation with its innovative ergonomic design.

“This is an important milestone for our operation in Brunei,” said Aker Solutions’ Project Director in Brunei Bjorn Viken.

“The introduction of the new system and technology is a demonstration of our long term commitment to continuously improve and digitalise the work processes for our customers and increase the competency of our local employees.”

As part of the implementation, employee of Aker Solutions in Brunei Fiona Teo, went on an intensive three-week training programme to learn how to operate the system in Stord, Norway. She is now fully equipped to manage and troubleshoot issues of the new system.

The software and hardware installation took three months and was completed in November with the support of teams from Norway, India, Singapore and Thailand.

The system is able to support the storage of more than 11,500kg of items with over 2,000 storage locations, by only using a footprint of 40 square metres.

The system is fully integrated with Aker Solutions’ digital work management system, MIPS (Method Integrated Project System), which integrates the engineering, procurement, fabrication and offshore installation processes. It enables real-time reporting using handheld devices which traces about 12,000 fabricated objects yearly in the project.

Aker Solutions in Brunei has 1,800 permanent employees and subcontractor employees, and maintains 220 assets offshore for BSP.
