Branch ‘B’ are the champions

BRANCH ‘B’ emerged the overall winner with a total of 21 medals (nine gold, two silver and 10 bronze medals) at the 32nd Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Inter Branches Sports Championship officially launched at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium of the RBPF Headquarters in Gadong yesterday.

Second place went to Branch ‘D’ who amassed 17 medals (six gold, six silver and five bronze medals). Branch ‘A’ took third place with 12 medals (six gold, four silver and two bronze medals).

Chief guest, RBPF Commissioner Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, officially launched the event.

The event started with the chief guest introduced to the participants, which comprised five branches (Branch ‘A’ to ‘E’), and hoisting of the championship flag, lighting of sports torch and reading of the sport pledge.

The championship, which started on December 11, ended yesterday. A total of 26 sports events were contested with 170 male and 44 female athletes participating.

Among the sports contested on the final day were the Javelin men’s category; 4x100m categories for men and women; 4x100m for men’s branch officers; 4x100m Chain of Command; and 4x100m final for men’s branch officers.

The RBPF Commissioner, along with Deputy Commissioner of the RBPF Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali, presented prizes to the winners.

Prizes were also presented to best male and female athletics, best turn-out parade, overall best athletic of the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council and overall best branch.

Staff Sergeant 2765 Mohd Nadrin from Branch ‘D’ won three gold medals and received the Athletic Trophy 2018, while Sergeant Female 2957 Alinawati binti Haji Aliakbar from Branch ‘B’, who won three gold and one bronze medals, received the Special Award 2018 and Athletic Trophy 2018.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of championship flag to the chairman of ‘branch ‘D’ and chairman of branch ‘E’.

The championship served as a platform for police personnel to foster closer ties and scout promising individuals for future national or internal championships.
