THE Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday hosted the Media Day attended by dozens of representatives from local media organisations.
The event held at the Defence Academy of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in Kampong Tanah Jambu included a dialogue session between MinDef and the media. It saw both sides discussing ways to enhance media coverage and engagement.
The session was led by Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.
MinDef Spokesperson Commander Norharirayati binti Yakub in her welcoming remarks highlighted the prevalence of fake news lately, which she said poses a challenge for them.
She called on media organisations to help them combat the spread of fake news or information from unofficial channels by approaching them for confirmation or clarification.
MinDef in a press statement said the objectives of the dialogue included encouraging constructive exchanges of views and ideas, strengthening relations between MinDef and the media, and exploring other potential areas of cooperation and partnership.
The dialogue session was followed by an obstacle course challenge for the media representatives, who were divided into teams and assessed by the time they took to finish six obstacle courses.
The challenge aimed at fostering teamwork was supervised by Physical Training Instructors from RBAF at the Defence Academy’s Obstacle Course Grounds.
The Media Day concluded with a high tea reception hosted by Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who also took his time to interact with the media representatives.
RBAF Commander Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, the Permanent Secretary at the MinDef and RBAF service commanders were also present.
Representatives from Radio Television Brunei, Information Department and private media organisations. attended the event.
