THE Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) yesterday presented Zakat contributions totalling BND6,600 to 132 children from 56 impoverished families.
Acting Secretary of MUIB Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sabtu presented the contributions to the children in the form of BND50 coupons in different presentation ceremonies at Samima Bookstore, Bismi Trading Sdn Bhd and Pustaka Remaja.
Yusof bin Ahmad, a father of three daughters still receiving primary and secondary education, expressed his gratefulness for the MUIB donations which will enable him to purchase uniforms and other school essentials for the 2019 academic year.
“This is the first time that we’ve received Zakat assistance,” he told the Bulletin. “Before, my daughters were receiving assistance from their schools. This is a relief for us and has helped to take a weight off our shoulders.”
This year, a total of BND461,850 in Zakat collections have been distributed among 6,551 recipients, who will also receive money deposited into their bank accounts.
