AFTER three weeks of film screenings, master classes and workshops, the Brunei Film Blitz 2018 came to a close.
A challenging four days of production later, 45 participants across 15 teams have submitted their three to six minutes short films to mark the completion of the 96-Hour Blitz challenge.
Upon deliberation, five films will be selected to be in the running for the ‘Grand Prize Award’ of two-year Diploma in Screen and Media scholarship and the Jury Award.
The top five films will be screened at the Brunei Film Blitz Awards Night today.
Yesterday, the Brunei Film Blitz 2018 closed its event with an Australian Film Education Open Day.
Attending the event was Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nicola Rosenblum, who toured the facilities at Brunei Darussalam’s first arts-focussed institution, the Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia.
TAFE Queensland representative Richard Barrett in his welcoming remarks explained how the facilities at Mahakarya in Brunei Darussalam is equivalent to the top-of-the-line facilities in film institution in Australia.
Also, finishing with a TAFE Diploma, Mahakarya students will be exposed to hands-on, skills-based education that will allow them to pursue a content creation career upon graduation.
The Australian High Commissioner was then treated to a screening of TAFE Screen and Media student films at the Princess Theatrette of the Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia.
Also present to facilitate the demands for continuing Arts Education are Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Austrade.
The presence of the two major contributing institutions opens up a wider pathway for students interested in screen and media, for which further education prospects in Brunei Darussalam and Australia are wide open.
