IN CONJUNCTION with the 70th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) will be issuing commemorative gold, silver and cupronickel coins.
This was announced yesterday by Pengiran Maslina binti Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Acting Executive Director of AMBD’s Currency Management, Mint, Currency Design and Gallery Unit at a press conference held at Level 1 of the BCMB Building, AMBD.
These commemorative coins will be legal tender in Brunei Darussalam. The gold coin has a face value of $70, is made of gold 999.9, weighs 31.10gm, is 32.12mm in diametre and is limited to 100 pieces. The gold coin has a selling price of $2,800.
The silver coin has a face value of $7, is made of silver 999, weighs 31.10gm, is 40.70mm in diametre and is limited to 250 pieces. The coin has a selling price of $180.
The face value of the cupronickel coin is 70 cents. It is made of cupronickel (copper-nickel) (75/25), weighs 28.00gm, is 40.70mm in diametre and is limited to 150 pieces. The cupronickel coin has a selling price of $110. There is also a coin set where all three coins are available and is limited to only 150 sets and has a selling price of $3,000.
These commemorative coins will be available for sale to the public on July 28 from 9am at the Currency Management, Mint, Currency Design and Gallery Unit of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, Commonwealth Drive.
This is the third issue of commemorative coins that are made once every decade since 1996.
The obverse design of the coin shows the portrait of His Majesty, while the reverse side shows the number 70 in Jawi script (v.) designed as a flower.
