NINE undergraduates from the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) received their certificates after completing a four-week Program Perintis Pakar Sejarah (PPSI) in a ceremony held at the History Gallery, Brunei History Centre yesterday morning.
Acting Deputy Principal of the Brunei History Centre Hanafi bin Haji Salleh attended the ceremony.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a remark from Hanafi who hoped that such programme and collaboration will continue in the future.
The PPSI is a collaborative programme between the Brunei History Centre and Faculty of Islamic Development Management (FPPI) of UNISSA in conducting scientific studies, researching historical resources and records relating to Brunei Darussalam.
Through the four-week PPSI programme, the students were placed in the Research and Document Division, Publishing and Marketing Division, and Exhibition and Services Division where they had the opportunity to learn the methodology of historical research such as transcribing history from interviews. Apart from that, the students were also exposed to illustration layout technique in publishing a book.
The objectives of the programme were to produce young and knowledgeable generation in the field of history and to provide exposure to working environment as well as to provide added value to their knowledge and skills in hope that it can be applied in their university learning in the future. Also, it was aimed at raising awareness and understanding of the importance of the nation’s history in defining the nation’s identity. The programme helped enhance the students’ practical learning as well as build their soft skills, communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills.
