SIXTEEN students and four officials from Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) returned home last Tuesday after embarking on the humanitarian mission for Lombok earthquake victims in Indonesia.
Director of Core Education Centre at KUPU SB Dr Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakbar, who led the group, expressed gratitude to Allah the Almighty for blessing them throughout the mission.
“Alhamdulillah, we also successfully distributed the donations and the recipients were grateful and happy to receive them,” said Dr Haji Noralizam.
Our activities and movement were well looked after by the relevant authority in Lombok.
The group joined villagers in the earthquake-stricken Lombok carrying out several activities including distribution of basic food necessities to about 400 recipients, Tazkirah, sports therapy, and community services through repair and cleaning of schools, houses, religious huts and mosque.
They also took part in farming activities with villagers as well as slaughtering of chicken, goats and cow for the preparation and distribution of food to the villagers and donation of cash and clothing to the earthquake victims.
The humanitarian mission was a practical component of social responsibility activities involving students carried out abroad for the first time.
It also aimed to raise students’ awareness and sensitivity towards the community in caring for the underprivileged.
