THE names of five Qaris and five Qariahs who successfully qualified for the finals of the 1440H/2019 National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults were announced during a prize presentation ceremony for the competition’s semi-final rounds at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.
Guest of honour, Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, presented prizes and certificates to the semi-finalists.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang were also present.
The five Qaris are Haji Nasrul Fakhri bin Haji Yahya, Ahmad Zulwaqar bin Haji Suhaili, Haji Mohd Albi bin Haji Ibrahim, Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim and Mohammad bin Ali.
Meanwhile, the five Qariahs are Zahrina binti Abdul Wahab, Hajah Nurul Akmalina binti Haji Yahya, Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki, Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri and Dayangku Amal Nazirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri.
Qari Haji Muhd Fikri bin Haji Metussin and Qariah Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Imran, both champions of last year’s competition, will also compete in the competition finals next month.
Head of the Islamic Syiar Development Division and the event’s Chairman Haji Mazneh bin Haji Md Noor in his welcoming address said the 56 semi-finalists were selected from those who scored 80 per cent and above in Al-Quran reading competitions at the district and mosque level. Yesterday’s ceremony was organised by the Islamic Syiar Development Division, Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) and the Centre of Studies and Dissemination of Al-Quran (MABIMS) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
