Wushu Federation inducts new office-bearers

LIM Boon Hwa was officially named the President of the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation yesterday, during the induction ceremony for the management committee members for 2019-2022, witnessed by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.

The position of the Deputy President went to Dr Md Firdaus Abdul Rahman, while the four Vice Presidents are Woo Ching Heng, Lim Ming Kiat, Koo Kong Loi and Tan Kai Teck.

Ang Ju Ming is the Secretary of the federation while Lim Ting Guan will hold the post of Treasurer.

Lim outlining the association’s history said “Dato Paduka Haji Talib bin Haji Berudin, who was the Director of Youth and Sports held a meeting on May 25, 2002 to discuss the setting up of the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation. From the outcome of the meeting, an executive committee led by Ang Swee Chuan was established to forward the application to the Registrar of Societies to set up the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation.

“In 2003, the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation was established and became a member under the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council. In the same year, the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation also became a member of the International Wushu Federation and the Wushu Federation of Asia. In 2007, the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation became a member of the Asia Lion and Dragon Dance Federation, after gaining approval from the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.”

“Today, the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation has reached 16 years since its establishment. Under the leadership of the previous president, Ang Swee Chuan, the sport of Wushu has developed rapidly in the country, and the Brunei Darussalam Wushu team has achieved excellent results in regional and international competitions,” he added.

“With the support from the athletes’ parents, the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Youth and Sports Department, the Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation also plays an important role in the success of Wushu in the country.

“The new management committee will continue to develop the sport of Wushu in the country, and try its best to attain improved results in Wushu.”

Secretary General of the Wushu Federation of Asia Chan Weng Kit, Vice President of the Wushu Federation of Asia Julian Camacho, Technical Committee Chairman of the Wushu Federation of Asia Jin Xiaobin, and Secretary of the Wushu Federation of Asia Ng Lok Chi were also present.
