BAHRIN Mohammad, an Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) representative for Brunei Darussalam, recently paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, who is also a fellow of the ICE.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Development building, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi and Bahrin Mohammad exchanged ideas and views on the improvement and development of civil engineers in Brunei Darussalam.

The minister welcomed Bahrin’s recent appointment as the ICE representative for Brunei by the ICE International Committee – based in One George Street, London – with effect from December 13, 2018 for three years.

ICE is an independent professional association for civil engineers headquartered in the UK with over 92,000 members, of whom three quarters are based in the UK, with the rest located in more than 150 other countries.

As a professional body, ICE aims to support and promote professional learning (both to students and existing practitioners), manage professional ethics and safeguard the status of engineers, and represent the interests of the profession in dealings with government, in addition to other related goals.

It sets standards for membership of the body, works with industry and academia to progress engineering standards, and advises on education and training curricula.

The institution awards professional qualifications that conform to industry standards, leads debates on infrastructure and the built environment, provides an unmatched level of training, and offers a platform for knowledge exchange and innovative thinking.

There are 148 ICE members in Brunei, of which most are practitioners. ICE aims to continue supporting the civil engineering profession by offering professional qualifications, promoting education, maintaining professional ethics, and liaising with industry and academia.
