UiTM new signing Adi Said made a case for selection in the starting line-up in the Malaysia Premier League season opener after contributing in the 2-1 win over Terengganu FC II with a goal during a pre-season friendly at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in Nilai recently.

The former DPMM FC forward is quickly gaining a reputation as a potent weapon in the UiTM attacking workforce during pre-season and will no doubt try to push his way into his head coach’s plans in the league opener against PDRM on February 1.

Sunday opened the scoring for the Lion Troops while Terengganu FC II’s goal came from Aqil Irfan.

Adi joined the Malaysia Premier League outfit late last year after impressing the coaches with a hat-trick in a friendly match.

The Brunei international enjoyed his best season in his career in the Singapore Premier League last term after recording 11 goals and 11 assists. He was the only player in the league to post double digits in both goals and assists.

The 28-year-old is in line to become the first Brunei player to make a league appearance for a foreign club in the Malaysia Premier League when the season kicks off next week.

The forward’s move to Malaysia came nearly three years after former Chief Executive Officer of S League Lim Chin indicated that a Brunei-born player could forge a playing career overseas.

During an interview with the Bulletin on the sideline of the DPMM FC – S League Football Fanfare in 2016, Lim heaped praise on the high standard of play shown by the Brunei players pinpointed by their League Cup triumphs and the Singapore league title.

“It is very clear that Brunei players in DPMM FC are of a very high standard. If the opportunity opens up, I’m sure some of your players in the coming years will be picked up by not only in Singapore but also in Malaysia and Thailand as well,” Lim said.
