MORE than 20 women showed their bowling skills in the Queen of the Lanes Challenge Cup 2019 at the Grand Seria Bowling Centre, Seria last Sunday.

Organised by the Queen of the Lanes Bowling Group, the cup was an annual event for the group to establish closer relations amongst fellow bowlers participating in the cup.

Salwani binti Haji Ali was crowned the ‘Queen of the Lanes’ as she secured first place overall with a final score of 678 points; followed closely by Siti Zubaidah binti Haji Mahbub in second place with 673 points; while Nurha binti Eya placed third with 639 points overall.

The friendly competition was also participated by bowlers from the Filipino Bowling Club.

President of the Queen of the Lanes Bowling Group Hajah Sharifah Rozlina binti Syed Elham said the challenge cup was held in conjunction with the group’s fifth anniversary.

“We conduct this tournament each year, with the first one being held just last year in the Brunei-Muara District,” she said, noting that this year’s challenge cup being held in Seria represented an opportunity for bowlers in the Belait District to participate.

Hajah Sharifah Rozlina recalled on how the group started to form few years back. She shared the group started small, but grew over time through participation in various competitions organised through several social media platforms.

“The group was an opportunity for us to get together to partake in activities held every week, which many of our members look forward to as we don’t only get to play bowling, but also enjoy the company of like-minded bowlers,” she said.

She also acknowledged the continuous commitment, collective efforts by the members, as well as support from friends and families that allowed the group to conduct such competition as well as other bowling activities on a weekly basis.

“Bowling is a great family recreational activity, and we encourage participation from family members in bowling, which not only introduce and promote the sports, but is also an opportunity to spend quality time together as family,” she said.

With the success of the challenge cup in Seria, she hopes that more ladies will be aware and able to participate in the group’s continuous and bowling activities.
