AS PART of its corporate social responsibilities towards people in need in the country, Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) yesterday donated financial aid worth BND5,000 for the Back to School project conducted by the Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM).
TelBru Head of Corporate Communications Haji Ideris bin Haji Ali presented the cheque on behalf of TelBru to Head of MKM Children Committee Zubaidah binti Dato Paduka Abu Zar at the TelBru office in Royal Brunei Plaza building in the capital.
The project is an annual project by MKM to help children from underprivileged families get their schooling necessities. In this year’s project, 25 students from underprivileged families have been selected by MKM to receive TelBru’s financial sponsorship.
Apart from the sponsorship, a group of volunteers from TelBru also joined the MKM’s administrative committee members and MKM volunteers to help shop for school items with the recipients.
The project started a few years ago since the launching of MKM’s Legal Clinic.
The needy families are registered under MKM.
Zubaidah said MKM does get a lot of support from individuals as well, adding that for each child it provides BND250.
