AMBASSADOR of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Motohiko Kato hosted a farewell ceremony for twelve Brunei students yesterday.
The students will depart to Japan on February 18 for a seven-day Japan-ASEAN Students Conference under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth (JENESYS), an exchange programme launched by the Japanese Government.
The conference will be attended by promising university or graduate students from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste and Japan, and the main theme is ‘What the Youths in Asian Countries Can Do for Realising Sustainable World’.
The students from each country will be divided into six thematic country-composite groups namely: Agriculture, Energy, Resilient Community, Health, Gender and Ageing Society. The Bruneian students will discuss on the assigned themes at workshops with the students from other countries.
The activities will include orientation, theme-related lectures and discussions, visit to Miyagi prefecture and theme-related places and observe current development in Japan. At the end of the programme, the students will need to draw up ‘The Declaration of Action Plan’ and present it at the reporting session before submitting it to ASEAN Secretariat in Indonesia (Jakarta) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The Japan-ASEAN Students Conference is organised by Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE), and its implementation is undertaken by Multilateral Interaction with Students (MIS).
The JENESYS programme aims to help young people look at ‘real Japan’ and its cultural, economical and technological features.
