REPAIR work on a main water pipe at Jalan Gadong Estate was completed by late afternoon yesterday, but those living in high-lying areas will continue to face low pressure and disruption, as the water supply system needs some time to stabilise.
Working around the clock since Wednesday night, Public Works Department (JKR) crews encountered difficulties in sealing the leak on a large pipe measuring 1,200mm in diameter, at Jalan Gadong Estate.
Acting district water engineer Azman bin Haji Mohd Salleh at the site of the repair said, “After hours of dewatering the pipe and the leak area, the leak was found to have come from a huge lateral gap located at the bottom part of the pipe and leading into the thrust block.”
He added, “The workers had to dig deeper underneath the pipe and also hack into the thrust block. The repairs required a metal plate to be put over the gap and then welded shut.”
Currently, the JKR is attempting to provide a constant supply of water to the affected areas in RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan, Kampong Subok and STKRJ Kampong Rimba.
The affected residents are advised to bring their own bottles or containers to obtain the water supply at the following locations:
RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan – the community halls at Jalan 2 and Jalan 77, the Lambak Kanan Mosque, the Lambak Kanan Centre for Capacity Building, and Jalan 11.
Kampong Subok – Tasek Serubing Recreational Park, Kampong Belimbing Subok Mosque, Simpang 287-21, Simpang 339, Simpang 309 and Simpang 530,STKRJ Kampong Rimba – Simpang 135 and Simpang 127.
Residents of the affected areas can also utilise the standpipe located at the Water Services Department in Tasek Lama as well as acquiring bags of water from the Kampong Belimbing Subok Mosque.
The JKR apologising for the inconvenience, also requested the public to limit their water usage, until the supply has been stabilised to normal levels.
