Awards aplenty for National Al-Quran Reading contest winners

HAJI Sudirman bin Haji Metussin, was placed first followed by Haji Masri bin Haji Mohamad in second and Haji Mahari bin Haji Metussin in third in the National Al-Quran Reading Competition organised by Department of Mosque Affairs and Takmir Committee of Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque, Kuala Belait on Wednesday.

Hajah Norzirwatul Fadhillah binti Haji Puteh came in first, followed by Hajah Amidah binti Ghafar and Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Ahmad in second and third in the female category.

Hajah Norzirwatul Fadhillah also scored the highest in the competition.

The event was held at the multipurpose hall of Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque.

Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, who was the guest of honour, was welcomed by Acting Director of Mosque Affairs and chairman of the event Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri.

Head of Religious Officer in the Belait District Haji Asminan bin Haji Chuchu, judges and guest were also present.

A total of 23 participants from mosques, suraus and religious halls from across the country, who grouped into male and female category, showcased their Al-Quran reading skills to the panel of judges.

Prizes were presented to winners and participants by the guest of honour.

The event proceeded with the presentation of appreciation gift from Mosque Affairs Officer at the Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Akup bin Haji Lamat to the guest of honour.

The competition’s aim is to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s vision to lead Brunei towards a Zikir Nation and help support mosques as a learning centre for the community.

It is also hoped that it will instil a love for Al-Quran reading among participants as well as to appreciate the teachings of Al-Quran and to apply it to their lifestyle.
