THE Japan Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a send-off ceremony for participants of the ‘Japanese Language Communication and Japanese Culture Exchange,’ under the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) yesterday.
The ceremony was held at the embassy’s chancery in Kampong Kiulap.
In his welcoming remarks, Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Motohiko Kato highlighted the warm ties between Japan and Brunei, as well as the programme and its contents.
The 22 students from various schools will be accompanied by a supervisor during the exchange programme from March 5-12.
They will engage in various activities such as a school exchange, a historical site visit and a homestay programme. It will also include a local area visit to Nagano Prefecture, aimed at promoting mutual trust and understanding cultural experiences in Japan.
Youth Leader Walid Misli said they hope to learn about Japan and its diverse culture, history, society, systems and technologies, innovation and economy. They also hope to share Brunei’s perspectives to strengthen bilateral relations, and to work together in problem-solving.
“When we return from the programme, we promise to continue to support the Japan Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) by promoting and sharing our experience with our family, friends and colleagues, especially youth who have yet to join this sort of programmes or have yet to visit Japan,” he said.
