JASPER Yu Woon Chai, the first national badminton player to compete in the Olympics, yesterday received a morale boost in the form of an apparel sponsorship from Hashimoto Corporation (Pte) Japan and International Halal Recommended Association.
The sponsorship was received during the national flag handing over ceremony for the Brunei contingent to the 31st Olympic Games, which is set to take place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Noriko Hashimoto, Coordinator from Hashimoto Corporation, presented the apparel sponsorship for Jasper Yu to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
According to Noriko Hashimoto, this is the second time the company has sponsored Jasper Yu Woon Chai. The first was for the Hiroshima Asian games.
“We are honoured and excited to be able to support Jasper again on his historic achievement for Brunei as the first local badminton player to compete in the Olympics,” she said.
Currently, Hashimoto Corporation is conducting various projects and initiatives to further build on the bilateral friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Japan.
The company is involved in the preparation of an art festival to be held in Brunei from August 22 to 28.
