FEMALE students from across the country took part in the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) Women In Science Boot Camp that ended yesterday.
The boot camp’s objectives were to strengthen female students’ involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, encourage them to be more aware of current issues and develop their fourth Industrial Revolution projects.
The boot camp was held to select teams for a competition to be held in June this year.
The boot camp was organised at the multi-purpose hall of Chung Ching Middle School. It saw participation of 25 students from schools in Brunei-Muara District, Tutong District and Belait District.
There was a creative thinking workshop dubbed the NXplorers Workshop with an introduction to the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Participants were introduced to tools such as Perspective Circle, Ripple Effect and Persuasion Pyramid.
Also conducted during the boot camp were team-building activities and challenges to leadership skills and teamwork. The activities included Atoms Smashers and Diamonds In the Rough.
Guest speakers were from Brunei Gavel Club to teach public speaking and leadership skills.
Head of Exhibition for OGDC Nur Karnina binti Karim presented certificates during the closing ceremony.
The students will pitch their project ideas to a panel comprising a representative from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Suriani binti Garip, a representative from Brunei Darussalam Teachers Academy (BDTA) Hajah Rosinah binti Haji Sabli and representatives from OGDC Nur Karnina and Nurul Fathien binti Amirul who is also the project manager for Women in Science Boot Camp.
