THE Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) held a ceremony at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Jetty yesterday, where 50 lifejackets were handed to boat operators working along the Brunei River.
The lifejackets were contributed by the Royal Brunei Technical Service (RBTS) as part of efforts to support the MPABD’s campaign in boosting safety standards for local water transport.
Safety leaflets were also distributed among the boat operators, passengers and the public.
The MPABD delivered a briefing on the importance of wearing lifejackets when boarding water transports.
The event was jointly organised by the MPABD and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommuncations (MTIC).
Permanent Secretary at the MTIC Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport, Research and Development) at the MTIC Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Corporate) at the MTIC Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim attended the event.
MPABD Chief Executive Haji Mohd Salihin bin Haji Aspar and several MTIC officers were also present.
