THE Belait District Branch of the Information Department conducted its Rakan Remaja Penerangan (RRP) programme at Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMPJNPHAB), Kuala Belait yesterday.
The programme aimed to help students understand various developments taking place in the country and to instil in them a spirit of nationalism and social responsibility.
A total of 553 students participated in the programme.
Present as guest of honour was education officer at the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education Maslinah binti Muhamad Masdi. Welcoming Maslinah to the event was principal Chin Ai Fong.
In her opening speech, Chin Ai Fong noted that education is a “lifelong process”, and she hoped students will take the opportunity to learn more about the country through the various briefings conducted by the Information Department, which she said are “key in realising the country’s Vision 2035 aspirations of producing a quality nation and citizens”.
The programme continued with a series of briefings, including one titled ‘Raja Kita Menghayati Bendera dan Lagu Kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussalam’ delivered by Head of the Information Department, Belait District Branch Pengiran Haji Ahmad Fadillah Akhbar bin Pengiran Haji Sellahhuddin.
Video clips showing the proper flag-hoisting procedures were also played.
There were also performances by the solo finalist of the Information Department’s Bintang Penerangan programme and the school’s students, as well as a comedy sketch by two Information Department officers.
Quizzes testing the students’ grasp of the topics were also held.
The guest of honour presented prizes to students who answered the quiz correctly and handed over a small gift to the school on behalf of the Information Department.
