A STOLEN fire hydrant and four covers were found inside a car on Friday morning.

Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Traffic Control and Investigation Department personnel found the hydrant and the covers when they checked a car for violating traffic regulations.

An RBPF report stated the driver of the vehicle, Mohd Khairi bin Abdul Salam, 34, was handed over to the investigation officer at Bandar Seri Begawan Central Police Station for further investigations.

The unemployed local was produced before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for charges under Section 379 of the Penal Chapter 22 and remanded until April 11.

The Bulletin on April 3 reported that 566 fire hydrants in the Brunei-Muara District were stolen, damaged or vandalised, leading to losses amounting to over BND200,000.

At the same time, 239 areas in the Brunei-Muara District are affected, putting these places at risk. These cases have been reported to the RBPF and the Public Works Department through the Water Services Department.
