HUNDREDS flocked to the Youth Centre on Saturday night for another edition of Malam Minggu Pusat Belia (MMPB), fulfilling its objectives to attract the public, especially youth during the first Saturday of every month.

MMPB kicked off in January, where Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin urged youth “to be united in utilising collaboration with each other”.

Fast forward to April, MMPB has managed to pulled a strong number of people in each edition with the help of collaborative efforts from more than 40 youth entrepreneurs and associations, organising proactive activities focussing on creative arts, health and volunteerism.

In an interview with the Bulletin, President of MMPB Council Hajah Noor Monasalieana @ Suzie binti Haji Mohd Salleh noted the steady growth on the number of visitors to each MMPB event.

She explained that the first MMPB attracted some 800 visitors followed by 1,500 visitors for the second edition last February. They have successfully hit the benchmark on the number of visitors last month with 2,700 visitors.

“We had a huge turnout (last month) with activities not only focussing on entrepreneurship but also arts and cultural activities, entertainment as well as performances by local talents.

“This month, we managed to pull an encouraging number of visitors and support from youth-led vendors,” she said.

According to the president, some 1,800 people attended MMPB last Saturday.

The Saturday night event featured a play land for toddlers, HotWheels competition, Tajweed classes, fitness activities, henna, make-up tutorials, photobooth, archery, health talk and local vendors selling homemade food and beverages.

It is hoped that the activities held during the MMPB nights will revive the atmosphere at the Youth Centre while enhancing productivity as well as encourage proactive activities.

The programme is also hoped to maximise the usage of the centre all year long.
