THE achievements of students from Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School (SMSSA) who excelled in the 2018 Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level and IGCSE examinations were celebrated during an awards presentation ceremony at the school’s Salambigar Hall yesterday.
School’s Principal Mohd Danny bin Aimi said that the event aimed to award prizes to students who attained excellent results in the examinations last year.
The event was also aimed at providing motivation and encouragement to Year 10, Express and Year 11 students sitting for the BC GCE ‘O’ Level and IGCSE examinations in 2019.
He said 48 excellent students from SMSSA who attained five to nine credits or distinctions in the 2018 examinations received awards, plaques and certificates.
Awards were also presented to four students who achieved an A* grade in a subject – Nurin Jazlina binti Noramirudin (IRK), Ahmad Danil bin Mat Nor (IRK), Siti Nursyakirah binti Mohamad Khair (Mathematics ‘D’) and Nur Zahidah binti Haji Ahmad Sofrin (History).
Nurin Jazlina, who achieved nine ‘O’ levels in the 2018 Brunei-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level and IGCSE examinations, was also presented the award for overall best student, garnering a plaque and certificate as well as a cash contribution of BND100 from the school and BND50 from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
Awards were also presented to two progressive students in the examinations – Muhammad Nur Asmae bin Abdullah Norsahrol and Siti Nadhirah binti Haji Norman. They were each awarded with a plaque, certificate and a contribution from the PTA amounting to BND50.
The event continued with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and souvenirs to departments at the school that handle three subjects that obtained results that reached the percentage target and were above the national average percentage, namely the subjects of History, IGCSE English (Core) and Design and Technology.
Certificates of appreciation and souvenirs were also presented to departments for subjects which showed a percentage increase in last year’s examinations – the departments for Malay Language; History; Physics; Combined Science; Food and Nutrition; Principle of Account; IGCSE English (Core); and IGCSE Mathematics (Core).
