SOME 26 senior citizens and 11 orphans from the Temburong District received donations from members of Buzzing Bees Group, part of a charity project organised by the group under their Buzzing Bees Charity Project in collaboration with the Temburong branch of Community Development Department.
The donations, in the form of basic food necessities and clothing, were given by Buzzing Bees Group as part of their mission to help ease the burden of the underprivileged and orphans, particularly those in remote areas.
The presentation took place in Kampong Batu Apoi, Temburong.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin presented the donations.
Legislative Council (LegCo) member Haji Emran bin Haji Sabtu and Acting Temburong District Officer Mohammad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed were also present.
Leading the Buzzing Bees Group representatives was Nurul Hazwani, a student from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
The project aims to expose Buzzing Bees members to the needs of the underprivileged, while at the same time provide them the opportunity to manage projects and be exposed to aspects of organisational management and effective communications, as well as letting them learn about community activities.
Buzzing Bees was set up in 2015 by a group of students – two from UBD and 12 from Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (Maktab Sains) while waiting for their GCE ‘A’ Level results.
Besides this charity project, the group has also organised other activities such as baking and home tutoring sessions, as well as taking part in expos and other community activities.
