MOROCCAN runner Younes Ammouta continued his reign in Brunei’s run events after he clinched top spot in the Men Open 11km of the Reintegration Run 2019 at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday.
Younes Ammouta finished the race after clocking 36.01, followed by Mastani Yussop with 39.33.59, and Haziq Syazwan with the time 40.07.19.
“The weather was quite nice today after a heavy downpour. So it was a bit cool for the run. I felt comfortable during the run because I managed to keep a distance with the nearest rival,” Younes told the Bulletin.
His next race will be in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah at the end of the month where he will compete in the half marathon category.
The National Day Run 2019 winner also competed in a marathon in Miri, Sarawak recently where he finished third place.
In the Women Open 11km category, Kathryn Deuerlein crossed the finish line first with the time 54.00.55, while Siti Fatimah finished second place with 56.59.27 and third place went to Lee Siew Shein with 57.00.03.
Haji Jupli bin Haji Pangis was crowned the winner of the Veteran Male 11km category after clocking 41.25.13, followed by Sahminan bin Haji Md Salleh with 42.00.56, and 68-year-old Kim Hing Lee from Miri with 42.11.90.
In the Female Veteran 11km, Airince Liam finished the race within seconds shy of one hour (59.00.79) to capture first place, followed by Cecilia Maksimon with 1.02.16, and Rani Dawat with 1.07.01.
Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presented the prizes.
