THE Bangladeshi community in Brunei welcomed Bangla New Year yesterday with traditional fanfare and festivity, pledging to uphold the nation’s cultural heritage.
To mark the biggest and most popular festival of the Bangladeshis, community members attended a Bangladeshi Fair organised by the High Commission of Bangladesh in Brunei Darussalam at its Chancery’s premises in Kampong Sungai Akar.
The fair was inaugurated by High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Mahmud Hussain. Bangladeshi women displayed their traditional pitha and home-made cakes, sweet meats as well as various traditional dishes.
A pitha-making competition, a children’s fashion show and a cultural programme were also held.
The event concluded with prizes awarded to participants of the cultural team, stall and children fashion show.
The Bangladeshi High Commissioner distributed the prizes and thanked the community members for their contribution and participation in celebrating the Bangla New Year.
