HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Charity Polo Day 2019 at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club yesterday afternoon.
The charity event, in support of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, was organised by the Royal Brunei Polo Association in collaboration with Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam.
The event began with a carnival where food vendors and games vendors started opening their booth for the public followed by performances by Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam members and performances by the Polo Kids Riding Parade from Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club. A Round Robin Polo Match was then held.
Team Shrek led by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen emerged champion after winning both matches against Team Minions led by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah and Team Smurfs led by Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah.
Team Shrek was led by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen with the other members being Huzaimi Husin, Mohd Mazhodir and Pengiran Md Kharul Alimin.
Team Minions was led by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah with the other team members being Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar and Idris Sirat.
Team Smurfs was led by Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, with the other team members being Farid Abdullah, Huzaimi Mahari and Abdul Syafiq Waqiuddin.
His Majesty rewarded the Richard Mille Trophy to Team Shrek.
Also present were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem and other royal family members.
After the polo event, around 150 prizes were given away from the lucky draw tickets bought from the public but the highlight of the charity event was the auctioning of the framed jerseys of Team Shrek, Team Minions and Team Smurfs signed by His Majesty and the players of all three teams.
The framed jerseys were sold to Farid Abdullah winning the bid at BND2,100. The auction and all proceedings from the Charity Polo will go to the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, a non-governmental, non-profit charity organisation committed to providing quality education, rehabilitation and care for people with special needs in Brunei Darussalam. The charity is committed to serving a variety of disabilities including individuals with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, hearing impairment, visual impairment and other developmental and physical disabilities.
Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam continues to aspire to improve the quality of life of people with special needs in Brunei Darussalam.
