HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) met athletes and officers of the Brunei Darussalam contingent for the Rio Olympics at the Barra Olympic Village.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Umi Kalthum binti Abdul Karim, Chef de Mission of the Brunei Darussalam contingent, secretariat officers and team managers.
His Royal Highness gave words of advice and a motivational talk to the athletes before departing for the Sultanate.
The care and concern shown by His Royal Highness is felt by the contingent especially athletes who is now nearing competition time.
His Royal Highness reminded athletes in his sabda to think positively, to look forward as well as give their utmost attention and concentration towards their opponent.
His Royal Highness advised that they must believe in themselves and is confident with the technique that have been taught by their coach and not easily influenced by others.
His Royal Highness said that athletes ought to be careful not to be entangled with the psychological war which can affect the athlete before and during competition. “Don’t let your mind control you. You should control your mind,” His Royal Highness added.
In his sabda, the athletes have been advised not to dwell too much on their errors during competition and seek to return their focus towards the competition.
His Royal Highness then reminded the athletes that the reason why they are in Rio is to compete and fulfill every athlete’s dream and show the world what Bruneians are capable of.
In his sabda, His Royal Highness also said that coaches can only provide support and encouragement from the outside during competition; hence at that time it is up to the mental strength and determination of the athletes to compete and devise a strategy and performance at the arena.
