SINCE its inception, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) has aimed to increase its recognition and reputation in the Malay Archipelago and at the international level as an international Islamic university.
As part of its effort of raising reputation overseas, UNISSA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kolej Universiti Insaniah (KUIN), Kedah Darul Aman, Malaysia.
The signing ceremony took place recently at KUIN campus in Kuala Ketil, Kedah Darul Aman.
Signing the MoU on behalf of UNISSA was the Rector of UNISSA, Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, while on behalf of KUIN was the university’s Rector, Dato’ Dr Mohd Fakhrudin bin Abdul Mukti.
In the memorandum, the universities agreed to establish cooperation in academic field, student and staff mobility programme and research in fields such as Islamic studies.
Shortly after the signing ceremony, both of the universities’ rectors delivered their speeches and agreed to cooperation between the two institutions since both offer similar programmes and both shared Arabic as a common language.
Kolej Universiti Insaniah is fully owned by the state of Kedah Darul Aman and registered under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education.
Kolej Universiti Insaniah was formerly known as Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kedah Darul Aman (INSANIAH). The early objective of the institution was to produce more Islamic-related professionals that could lead communities and expand Islamic knowledge, and also to assist religious school graduates to continue to pursue higher level of education.
To keep up with changes, INSANIAH was upgraded to a university college on May 15, 2006.
The Rector of UNISSA’s visit to KUIN was not only for the signing of the memorandum but also to attend a seminar regarding anti-extremism held by Institut Wasatiyyah Malaysia (IWM), co-organised by KUIN, Department of Aqidah and Islamic Thinking, Academy of Islamic Studies of the University of Malaysia and the World Association for Al-Azhar Graduates (Malaysia). It was a two-day seminar held from August 8-9.
