Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman attended the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) E-Forum on COVID-19 Response yesterday.
The forum, themed Education Post-COVID-19 World, was co-hosted by Senior Malaysian Minister of Education Dr Mohd Radzi bin Md Jidin in his capacity as SEAMEO Council President and SEAMEO Secretariat.
The event, attended by education ministers from 10 SEAMEO member countries, served as a platform on which the ministers discussed and shared their countries’ responses to the pandemic, according to a statement.
During the forum, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah shared Brunei’s immediate coping and continuing responses, which focus on four main target groups: students, teacher, school leaders and parents.
Provision of support and assistance, he said, are centred around familiarising the groups with new ways of teaching and learning, technical supports, social distancing and hygiene, capacity building, and welfare and emotional support.
The minister added that the assistance has been extended to supporting students in need, especially in providing them with the infrastructure to ensure equal accessibility to education during these challenging times.
Also in attendance were Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin and other officials from the MoE.
