Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam Wanthanee Viputwongsakul, accompanied by senior officials and staff of the the Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam sent off 44 Thai nationals who left for home by boarding a special flight of Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) yesterday.
The special flight was an arrangement between the embassy with RB and left Brunei International Airport for Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, at 10.55am.
Prior to the departure, the ambassador distributed care-package comprising travel necessities such as face-masks and hand sanitiser as well as lunch for the passengers.
The Thai nationals comprising students, migrant workers and private individuals, conveyed their appreciation to the Government of Brunei Darussalam for assisting them to return home, said the ambassador.
She said four of the passengers are students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) who have completed their student exchange programme, two are undergraduates from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) who are going home for their semester break while another is a student in a school here.
While some of the workers have completed their contract, there were also a few others who have made an agreement with their employers to end their contracts.
The embassy disseminates important information from the government to Thai nationals through various channels such as Facebook and LINE app to keep them updated.
The embassy continuously assisted Thai nationals in Brunei by visiting them and distributing care packages and food.
The ambassador also expressed her appreciation to the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and National Registration Department, Department of Civil Aviation and RB for the assistance extended for arranging the special flight.
