DPMM FC rivals in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) have resumed training under the guidelines and measures announced by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) for the safe return of football activities following the reopening of sports and recreation facilities under Phase 2 of the de-escalation plan in Singapore.
According to the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), these guidelines were established in consultation with relevant authorities such as Sport Singapore and in compliance with recommended advisories, and specific general hygiene, training and safe management measures specifically for clubs.
During training, groups are limited to five players and one coach with no inter-mixing of players among groups while heading drills, throw-ins and physical contact are discouraged.
Current league leaders Tampines Rovers resumed their training at the Our Tampines Hub in Singapore yesterday after a lengthy break due to restrictions in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In keeping with the guidelines and measures, players were split into groups of four and arrived for their sessions at staggered times.
Some of the safety protocols employed are the disinfection of balls and training cones after each session, periodic use of hand sanitisers and temperature checks. These measures are to be adopted by the eight SPL clubs based in Singapore.
DPMM FC’s plans to resume football-related activities depends on the return of team sports and organised sports, which are not allowed under the second phase of the de-escalation plan in Brunei Darussalam.
Currently, only single matches from selected sports and sports that are played in a solo basis are allowed with specified guidelines.
A major addition to the second phase or known as the Operational Readiness Level 2 is increased capacity from 30 to 60 per cent at gyms and fitness centres, indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
