International Day of Yoga celebrated

The High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam celebrated the 6th International Day of Yoga at the residence of the High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Ajaneesh Kumar in Kota Batu yesterday.

The event was streamed live on YouTube and Facebook due to the coronavirus pandemic for yoga enthusiasts interested in joining the session. Yoga practitioners were invited to demonstrate the yoga exercises while practising social distancing.

The yoga session began with the screening of a message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by remarks by the high commissioner. It continued with a brief film on yoga compiled by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and a virtual talk on ‘Ayurveda and Immunity’ by Dr Nisha Manikantan.

Dr Nisha Manikantan, an Ayurvedic Doctor, dietitian, wellness and lifestyle adviser, teacher and trainer on health related issues, spoke on the importance of an Ayurvedic diet to boost immunity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was followed by a yoga session based on the common yoga protocol conducted by Teacher of Indian Culture (TIC) in the High Commission of India in Brunei Darussalam Ram
Lavat Prajapati.

The high commission, in collaboration with Indian associations, organised an Essay Writing Competition, Poster Making Competition and a Yoga Day Family Quiz Competition to commemorate the 6th International Day of Yoga.

The high commission also organised a video blogging competition ‘My Life My Yoga’, on behalf of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
