UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday hosted a roadshow for the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2017 Competition to garner greater awareness among members of the public in the Brunei-Muara District.

Around 150 people attended the event, including Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim.

A summary on the importance of creativity and innovation was delivered by Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Mohd Taib from the Information and Publicity Committee of CIPTA 2017.

This was then followed by presentations from Professor Dr Ardeshir Bahreininejad and Dr Lim Pang Jen from the CIPTA 2017 Technical Committee, on the rules, regulations and varying categories of the competition.

There was also an open forum and a mini exhibition of past CIPTA projects.

CIPTA 2017 is the seventh instalment of the biennial competition, organised by UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, the main sponsor.

The competition is open to all schools, technical and tertiary academic institutions, government and private organisations, as well as to the general public.

There are three main competitions: The Local Competition (for Brunei citizens and residents), the Smart Junior Competition and the Asean Category.

Winners from the Asean Category will be eligible to compete with winners from the Local Competition for the Crown Prince Special Award to win the grand prize of $8,000 and a CIPTA Trophy.

Each entry will be judged according to creativity, design, the project report and presentation.

An assessment of the submitted projects will be conducted in two stages, starting with the preliminary assessment, and only qualified entries will be allowed to proceed to the final assessment.

The deadline for participation is October 31. More details can be obtained from www.utb.edu.bn/cipta.
