A TOTAL of 146 male recruits of the 156th intake and 59 female recruits of the 52nd intake have concluded their basic military training with a passing out parade at the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces (TI RBAF) in Penanjong Garrison.
The male recruits underwent basic military training for 31 weeks while the female recruits underwent training for 21 weeks.
Present as guest of honour was Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
In the speech delivered by Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila, she recalled 55 years ago, the nation’s armed forces consisted of only 60 people. Now the number is 150 times larger, which includes the involvement of women in the military.
She stated that since it was opened to women, the number of military registration among women continuously increased.
She believed the training that the recruits had endured developed them into responsible, trustworthy, high-integrity individuals who possess high levels of patriotism.
She said military men and women play an important role as the country’s first line of defence and as the nation’s heroic youths who are fearless in coming forward in the defence of their king, religion, people and nation.
The permanent secretary also emphasised the contribution of the nation’s youths as one of the deciding factors in the RBAF’s progressive development.
“Surely, youths who are interested to be involved in a military career are those who have a deep sense of responsibility towards the nation,” she said.
