TWO historical milestones marked the completion of the main structure of the bridge crossing at Sungai Brunei connecting Kampong Sungai Kebun to Jalan Residency yesterday.
First was the joining of the last section of the bridge structures that were built on both sides of the Brunei River, connecting Bandar Seri Begawan to Mukim Sungai Kebun, Mukim Lumapas and the surrounding area.
On the same day, a dome measuring 8.7-metre in diameter was raised and fixed on the tower of the bridge at 130 metres.
Works on the completion of the bridge was witnessed by the guest of honour, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development.
A Doa Selamat was read by Haji Muhamad Azrol Alim bin Haji Zaini,Mosque Affairs Officer of Kampong Pintu Malim.
To ensure the safety of the public, particularly road users and boat passengers, agencies comprising personnel from the Traffic Control and Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, paramedics from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, Fire and Rescue Department, Marine Department and the Public Works Department have been assigned to the site.
Also present at the ceremony were Dato Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Deputy Minister of Development; and senior officials from the Ministry of Development.
