The Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award returns with a focus on technological innovations using digital technologies such as data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics.
Chairperson of Secretariat Committee Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2021 Dr Hajah Roslynna binti Haji Rosli said these smart technologies can be utilised efficiently for the society’s benefit. Effective use of technology will contribute to a more sustainable economic growth and solve global challenges.
Dr Hajah Roslynna added that this year’s CIPTA 2021 hopes to see creative and innovative products and technologies that will integrate the societal, economical, and Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) driven technological facades. As in the past competitions, CIPTA 2021 welcomes the participation from all members of the public to showcase their ingenuity
and talents.
The Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2021 is the ninth instalment of the biennial competition organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd as the main sponsor. The competition will be launched by Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman at Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Brunei on August 19.
The competition is graced with the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Pro-Chancellor of UTB.
Since its inauguration in 2005, the competition has 67 top winners across several categories, many of which had significant successes.
However, within 15 years since the competition began, there has only been one project that won the prestigious Crown Prince CIPTA Special Award Trophy – a drug delivery system that utilises green tea as the key ingredient to improve the effectiveness of anti-cancer drugs.
Green Tea Nanocarriers to Fight Cancer was a brainchild of the team from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology Singapore Dr Joo Eun Chung, Dr Motoichi Kurisawa and Professor Jackie Y Ying. Their findings were published in the scientific journal, Advance Materials and are continuing its research on other anti-cancer drugs in the nanocarrier.
Other achievements included the invention of a revolving griller to cook lemang, a pen for Dyslexia sufferers and seafood drying machine.
